Priority Wire & Cable is unique in the wire and cable space and has grown to be one of the largest suppliers of wire, cable and grounding products in the U.S. and Canada. It was started by two individuals with factory, distribution and rep experience who wanted to make a difference. What they felt was missing back in 1993 was quick service to help a distributor get what they need when they need it, from stock rather than the historic long lead times of a pure factory. Today, Priority is a modem manufacturer with the majority of our sales being Priority branded product. We also fill out our product offering with specialty or industrial wire and cable products, sold generically or under other industry leading brand names. We sell exclusively to distributors and offer many value-added services to our customers.
Wire and cable is a very competitive product line, and throw in the commodity aspect or metals risk that a distributor faces, and it can be the lowest margin product grouping they sell. As it is generally 20 to 30% of a distributor’s sales, price is important, but service and the ability to be a reliable provider are keys to a wire and cable distributor’s ability to tum a profit. That is where Priority has become an important partner with distribution. Our customers can count on consistent supply. That means that they don’t have to stock as much inventory, which frees up space. They also get better turnover rates, and that reduces the risk of inventory cost changes.
Priority offers competitive pricing, but again, that is not what makes a good supplier. We offer operationally excellent service, and our customers save because their profits are not eaten up by multiple receipts, material handling, expediting and invoices. Those hidden costs can greatly reduce profitability. We understand that, and make it easy to do business with us. We have a team of experienced inside salespeople that distributors can call or email directly for quick quotes and answers. We also have our own direct regional managers and product specialists and local manufacturing representatives around the country.
Our main strength is the breadth of product and volume of inventory stocked at all of our sixteen U.S. warehouses strategically located throughout the country as well as a warehouse outside Toronto, Canada. We currently have over 2.4 million square feet of warehouse space and over $200 million in inventory. This allows us to provide a product offering and service level unmatched by other industry factories, re-sellers or brokers.
We generally ship orders complete, same day and deliver the next via common carrier. As we stock the full breadth of all our hundred plus wire and cable product categories, we don’t have to ship products from a variety of sites. Another benefit of the local inventory is that there is minimal cross docking and potential for damage.
